The beginning of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series just got a lot more exciting. Tony Stewart is signed up to race at Daytona. He will hop in the No. 25 Ram 1500 for Kaulig Trucks.
It has been literally decades since Tony Stewart made his last start in the Truck Series. If he qualifies for the race in Daytona, Smoke will have the longest gap between starts in Truck Series history.
NASCAR fans are getting a little spoiled this week. First, The Chase is back as the championship format. Now, Smoke is back in the Truck Series for a one-off? Let’s go!
Tony Stewart is a Hall of Famer. He is a legend in racing. In fact, he’s still got a full-time gig in the NHRA, where he is very competitive. So, why is this the time to come back to NASCAR? Well, Stellantis is getting back into the sport with Ram Trucks and hopefully, Dodge later on in the Cup Series. Why not get involved in that?
The last time that Stewart attempted to make a start in the Truck Series was at Richmond back in 2005. He was racing for Kevin Harvick Inc. Unfortunately, he was a DNQ for that event. However, earlier in the season, he finished P2 at Dover for Morgan-Dollar Motorsports. Out of seven starts, Smoke has two wins in the series, both coming at Richmond.
NASCAR fans are going to have a lot to cheer for when the season begins in Daytona. If you’re a Stewart fan, Daytona has to make you excited. Everyone knows that Smoke was automatic in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series season-opener. He has seven wins to start the season at Daytona in NASCAR’s second-tier series.
So, can Tony Stewart apply that to his Truck Series start? He’s never raced a truck at Daytona, so it will provide him with a very unique opportunity. It is rare to be doing something or attempting something that someone like Smoke hasn’t already done. If he were to go out and win the race, it would be incredible. I wouldn’t put it past him, though.
